Forest Service Washington Office:

The National Geographic Society is leading a nationwide effort to conduct “BioBlitz” efforts.  A BioBlitz is an event that focuses on having participants find and identify as many species as possible in a specific area over a short period of time. At a BioBlitz, scientists, families, students, teachers, and other community members work together to get an overall count of the plants, animals, fungi, and other organisms that live in a place.  The Forest Service is working with National Geographic on some of these events.  There may be an opportunity for you to engage your participants as well.  http://nationalgeographic.org/projects/bioblitz/

·         The Forest Service also has a recently executed partnership with Agents of Discovery.  When visiting an Agents of Discovery site, you can explore the landscape and learn about the surroundings by using mobile gaming.  Visitors play a fun, interactive game featuring augmented reality, GPS triggered challenges and other exciting “secret agent tools”.  http://discoveryagents.net/get-involved/us-forest-service-corner/

·         There may be an opportunity to incorporate My Brother’s Keeper, a Presidential initiative based in the White House, into your event (https://www.whitehouse.gov/my-brothers-keeper).

100 Years: Let's celebrate!

The National Park Service turns 100 on August 25, 2016, and everyone can take part in the celebration!

The centennial will kick off a second century of stewardship of America's national parks and engaging communities through recreation, conservation, and historic preservation programs.

We invite you to find your park and discover the national parks and programs in your own backyard!
